It is hard to deny that we live in an angry time. Anger fills our politics, social media feeds, news, dinner table arguments, and sometimes even our parishes. We quickly move to blame and have been taught to answer with outrage.

On a recent Saturday, I had the privilege of watching four men make perpetual vows as members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross. It was a beautiful liturgy inside of Notre Dame’s Basilica of the Sacred Heart, as the four lay prostrate during the litany of saints and professed their vows of poverty, chastity and obedience before their religious superior.
