The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has reopened an investigation of abuse charges against Father William Stolzman, Bishop Andrew Cozzens said in a Jan. 23 statement.

According to the statement, the archdiocese received an allegation in 2008 that Father Stolzman sexually abused a minor in the 1970s.

“Law enforcement investigated and did not refer the case for criminal charges,” Bishop Cozzens said. “After an investigation by the archdiocese, the Clergy Review Board reviewed the case and recommended that Rev. Stolzman remain in ministry.”

Father Stolzman was ordained in 1971 and retired in 2008. He has been placed on a leave of absence and will not exercise priestly ministry during the current investigation of the alleged 1970s abuse, Bishop Cozzens said.
