Father Mark Huberty was criminally charged in Ramsey County District Nov. 19 following accusations made against him by a woman who has alleged inappropriate sexual contact.

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis said in a statement that it first learned of the situation from another priest in late August and immediately began an investigation. The archdiocese cooperated with civil authorities in conducting their investigation, and Father Huberty, 43, was placed on leave from active ministry Sept. 19.

Following the announcement of criminal charges, Father Huberty submitted his resignation as pastor of Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Maplewood. He will remain on leave until the investigation is concluded.

Bishop Lee Piché is serving as parochial administrator of the parish.
