Bringing Church teaching into active learning and community building, Pro Ecclesia Sancta (PES) sisters in the Twin Cities and around the country have created a program of engaging activities and stations that walk children through their weeklong Holy Kids Camp. Activities include dynamic videos, scripts, labs, games and more.
The focus is on vibrant living, the love of Christ and promoting holiness in the Church, said Sister Leann Luecke, one of nine Minnesota-based religious sisters in the ecclesial family of consecrated life founded in 1992 in Lima, Peru.
“The theme of this camp is holiness,” Sister Leann said. “We hope to have other themes in upcoming years.”
Developed for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and styled after popular vacation Bible schools, the religious sisters are emphasizing the authentically Catholic teaching in their offering and promoting it particularly for parishes and schools.
Part of the promotion is an 11 a.m. to noon Feb. 5 webinar at https://tinyurl.com/mr3rpzxm, Sister Leann said. Pastors and parish personnel, school principals, teachers and staff are among those who can participate and learn more about the offering, she said.
PES sisters put their half-day Holy Kids Camps together after seeing positive feedback from the videos they have been producing for their YouTube channel over the past five year, Sister Leann said. Parents have also used the videos in their homes, she said.
The package now available for purchase online will help people plan and staff their own camps, and it will help Pro Ecclesia Sancta evangelize, bringing the joy that comes from walking with Christ into more lives, she said.
“We know we are not able to go to all the parishes we would like to,” Sister Leann said. “So, we can be there through these videos.”
The five-day camp includes an optional sixth day — a family day, involving the students’ parents and others, she said.
Each of the 23 Pro Ecclesia Sisters ministering in Minnesota, California, Michigan and South Dakota had some involvement in creating the curriculum, writing the scripts and shooting and editing the videos, Sister Leann said.
“We feel like this is what the Lord wants us to do to reach the broader community,” she said.
