March 23, the Catholic Watchmen of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis will lead a conference titled “Men of Christ Rising Daily in Discipleship.”

Deacon Gordon Bird, who serves as the Catholic Watchmen point man for the archdiocese, said that the conference, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Joseph in Rosemount, aims to encourage men to be disciples of Christ in their daily lives.

“We have to rise each day in our homes … and be disciples starting at home,” Deacon Bird told “Practicing Catholic” producer Kayla Mayer. “We have to learn how to not only lead, but to follow in the right ways too, and to teach our kids to do those things so we can go out there to the greater community … our own parish, our workplace.”

The day will start and end with prayer, Deacon Bird said. Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Bernard Hebda. There will also be time for adoration and Liturgy of the Hours.

The conference will feature renowned speakers Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers and Jeff Cavins.

Deacon Burke-Sivers is an award-winning author of six books who travels internationally to speak at conferences, workshops and retreats. He is the host of the daily show “Beacon of Truth” on EWTN Radio and has appeared in the major motion picture “Power in My Hands.” Jeff Cavins is an international speaker and creator of the Great Adventure Bible Study series published by Ascension Press.

Deacon Burke-Sivers told Mayer that “gatherings like this are incredibly important.”

“Even Jesus needed help carrying his cross,” Deacon Burke-Sivers said. “We need each other. We need to have each other’s backs. We need to come together as a community of men to uplift, build and support each other so that we can go out there and do the work that God has called us to do.”

“My prayer is that this conference is a launching point to really have men make a sustained, permanent change in their way of thinking, acting and being as men,” Deacon Burke-Sivers said.
