Listen to St. Paul-based musician and recording artist Luke Spehar perform “Oh Holy Night” by tuning into the “Practicing Catholic” radio show at 9 p.m. Dec. 22 on Relevant Radio 1330 AM.
In one of three interviews and short sessions of live Christmas music, “Practicing Catholic” also showcases Alex Schindler, a Twin Cities-based Catholic worship leader, liturgical musician and singer-songwriter, and pianist and composer Steven C. Anderson, also of St. Paul.
Spehar told the show’s producer, Kayla Mayer, that for him, “Oh Holy Night” captures a recognition of Christ’s incarnation.
“The recognition, like, the Lord came from out of time into time as a baby, just this very tangible, truly incarnation of God in time and space and matter. And just to recognize these moments of just holiness, of divinity, presence and stillness,” Spehar said.
The opening verse of “Oh Holy Night” captures the human condition and plight and the thrill of hope in Christ, he said. “The people of God were just yearning for that savior, and he came,” Spehar said.
Spehar also performs a song he wrote, “Your Light.” To hear the song and Spehar describing the meaning he packs into it, listen to this episode of “Practicing Catholic,” which repeats at 1 p.m. Dec. 23 and 2 p.m. Dec. 24.
