Msgr. John Sankovitz was longtime teacher

Msgr. John Sankovitz, 87, died Aug. 29.

He was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Wisconsin and ordained a priest for the archdiocese on May 31, 1947. Msgr. Sankovitz was the only diocesan priest to teach at the St. Paul Semi­nary, University of St. Tho­mas and Nazareth Hall, where he was rector.

He also served as assistant pastor at Cathedral of St. Paul and pastor of St. Dominic in Northfield. He retired from active ministry Dec. 1, 1992.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Sept. 2 at the University of St. Tho­mas Chapel, in St. Paul, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
