The chapel at St. Catherine University is the focus of the recently published book “Our Lady of Victory Chapel: Monument – Mystery – Mission.”
Author Mary Ann Brenden, social work professor in the St. Catherine University-University of St. Thomas School of Social Work and a consociate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, researched the history of the chapel and Mother Antonia McHugh, the sister responsible for building it. The book grew from Brenden’s popular “Chapel Talk” that discussed the chapel’s history, architectural influences and details, and their meaning.
An icon on the St. Kate’s St. Paul campus, Our Lady of Victory Chapel was dedicated Oct. 7, 1924, and since then has hosted academic celebrations, commencement hooding ceremonies, holiday liturgies, weddings and funerals.
Brenden will sign the book following 10:30 a.m. Mass in the chapel Dec 18. It can be ordered online at stkate.edu/chapelbook.
Brenden’s story, illustrated by numerous photos, was published by St. Catherine University, and proceeds from the book will support preservation of the chapel.
