The Lesson Plan

Evangelization 2012

Evangelization is to tell the story of Jesus; to proclaim, share and spread the gospel; and to bring others to belief and help them deepen their faith.

St. Paul: The evangelizer extraordinaire

St. Paul is the evangelizer extraordinaire! Jesus began the proclamation of the Gospel, and Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, took the Gospel worldwide.

In their words: Criminal justice system participants tell their stories

The Criminal Justice Working Group of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet works for reform of the current criminal justice system by advocating for policies that focus on rehabilition instead of retribution. October is Criminal Justice Month in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minnneapolis and the group has observed it with talks and prayer.

Archbishop calls Catholics to shine ‘light of faith’

Patrick and Mary Tschumper stood in the late afternoon glow at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis Oct. 14 hoping to fan into flame their faith. Positioned in a pew near the front, they lit candles and listened to Archbishop John Nienstedt kick off the Year of Faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI with a vespers (evening prayer) service.

Three essential elements of evangelization

Brian Pizzalato highlights the “three essential elements” to effective evangelization.

Twelve Apostles: Sinners called by Jesus to serve

We, like the apostles, are asked to be evangelizers, as unworthy as we may be

All Saints and All Souls

All Saints is the feast honoring all of the saints of the Church. All Souls Day is the commemoration of all the faithfully departed.

What does it take to cultivate a spirituality of stewardship?

To get at the spiritual root of something is to go back to its original reality — in this case, to discover the essence of stewardship. Catholic spirituality has real meaning in our lives and the lives of others because we connect to the source of that meaning, Jesus Christ and his church.

Patron of priests among greatest confessors

St. John Vianney, whose feast day is Aug. 4, is also known as St. Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney and the Cure of Ars. He was born in 1786 in Lyons, France, into a devout Catholic family. It was a time of terrible upheaval. The French Revolution was under way, churches were being closed and priests were being killed.

Summer Gospel readings put spotlight on Eucharist

There will be a major shift in the Sunday Gospels beginning on the 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time July 29. This is Year B of the Sunday Lectionary, the year that emphasizes the Gospel of Mark; but for a series of five weeks, from weeks 17 to 21, the Sunday Gospels will be taken from the Gospel of John — the “Bread of Life discourse.”
