Men, for a booster shot to your faith life, show up at the Cathedral of St. Paul the morning of Saturday, March 31. Come expecting to be challenged, too.
Matthew Kelly is likely to both lift your spirit and put a burr under your spiritual saddle as well. Kelly, the author of “Rediscover Catholicism,” “The Rhythm of Life” and other spiritually awakening works, will be one of the presenters that day at the 2012 Archdiocesan Men’s Conference.
Archbishop John Nienstedt, Father Bill Baer and radio host Dave Lee are also on the agenda for the conference that’s titled, “Rise Up, O Men of God.”
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and there is time for eucharistic adoration, confession and the rosary before the archbishop presides at Mass at 8 a.m.
Breakfast follows, then the presentations before closing by noon. All men high school age and older are invited; register online; cost is $15. Walk-ins are welcome.
Kelly is an unabashed cheerleader for the Catholic faith. In “Discover Catholicism” he wrote: “. . . for the past two thousand years, wherever you find Catholics, you find a group of people making enormous contributions to the local, national and international community,” and “There is nothing wrong with Catholicism that can’t be fixed by what is right with Catholicism.”
But he also wrote: “We have a responsibility to demonstrate that walking with God and following the life and teachings of Jesus Christ is the best way to live.”
In addressing why more people aren’t coming to church, Kelly answers, “Because you and I have failed to show them the relevance of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in the 21st century. As a church, we have failed to show them how Jesus, the sacraments, the Gospel, the Eucharist and Catholic spirituality in general can ease their pain, make them whole again, and bring meaning and purpose to their lives.”
