For the second time in his life, Father Erik Lundgren, parochial administrator at Sts. Joachim and Anne in Shakopee, is running the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon to celebrate his birthday. The first time, in 2012, it was to celebrate his 30th birthday. This year, it’s for another significant milestone. The event takes place Oct. 4, with the course going past the Cathedral of St. Paul and ending near the State Capitol.

“This is for my 33rd birthday — the glorious year in which our Lord died and rose again,” Father Lundgren said.

His goal is to raise $33,000 for his parish, which will be used to cover the first Communion fee for families with children set to receive their first Eucharist. In 2012, he was able to raise $50,000 for Divine Mercy in Faribault, where he was serving at the time.

Recently, he said he was at about $17,000, with about 300 donors. Those wishing to donate can do so online, or mail payment to 2700 17th Ave., Shakopee, MN 55379. Make checks payable to “SJA” and put “Father Erik 33 in the memo line.
