Former priest Loftus dies

Robert Loftus, a former priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis who was voluntarily laicized in 1977, died Jan. 25. He was 91. Ordained in 1963, he was an assistant pastor of St. Stephen in Anoka (1963-1966); Christ the King, Minneapolis (1966-1967); and Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis (1967-1971). He was pastor of St. Frances Cabrini in Minneapolis from 1971 to 1977, when he took a leave of absence and was no longer in ministry. On Dec. 5, 2013, the archdiocese placed his name on a list of those having a substantiated claim of sexual abuse of a minor.
