Hill-Murray School names new president

Jim Hansen, a 1973 graduate of Hill-Murray School in Maplewood, is its new president, the Hill-Murray Board of Trustees announced Feb. 25.

Hansen has served as adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Business at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul for the last 30 years, twice earning the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award for his contributions to education from the University of Minnesota, where he earned bachelor’s degrees in physiology and science education. He has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas.

“I am honored to join a venerable institution with such a rich community of alumni, parents and friends committed to faith-based individualized education,” Hansen said. “I look forward to continuing our long tradition of preparing our students for success with the support of our outstanding staff of educators, administrative leaders and committed board members.”

Dan Hackman, Hill-Murray board of trustees chair, said that as an alumnus, Hansen has “a true love” for the 6-12 Benedictine preparatory school and “an intense commitment to its future.”

“In addition to his passion for excellence in Catholic education, Jim has an incredible track record of success as a leader in education, business and non-profit organizations,” Hackman said. “Jim has distinguished himself as a best-in-class, transformational leader who inspires teams to deliver great results. We’re excited to work with Jim to take Hill-Murray to the next level of excellence.”

Hansen’s business career includes leadership roles at Medtox, Kinnard Investments, Ciprico, UBIQ Software, E.Mergent, Washington Square Capital, Apache Corporation and BCG. He currently serves on several boards. Hansen’s contributions to civic and non-profit organizations include the Freshwater Foundation, the St. Paul Jaycees, the Young Presidents Organization and the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce.
