The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis contributed $419,717 to the annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection for 2012.

The Retirement Fund for Religious is the annual appeal coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office.

“On behalf of all retired religious, may God reward and bless you for your generosity,” Sister Midge Breiter, archdiocesan coordinator, said in a message to Catholics of the archdiocese.

In addition to the annual appeal, the National Religious Retirement Office distributes funds to help religious institutes meet current and future retirement needs.

According to a recent Retirement Fund for Religious newsletter, the unfunded retirement liability continues to be one of the most critical challenges to religious communities, but the gap is narrowing.

The continued generosity of Catholics to the Retirement Fund for Religious has made possible grants that with careful fiscal planning have enabled numerous communities to transform their retirement crises into manageable concerns.
