Deacon Carlson was among first ordained permanent deacons

Deacon Carlson

Deacon Paul Carl­son, 94, was part of the first group of perm­anent deacons to be ordained for the Arch­dio­cese of St. Paul and Minnea­polis in 1976. He died April 20.

A catechist at the Paulist information center, Deacon Carlson taught Scripture for the diaconate formation program and in parishes and was a member of the archdiocesan Mar­riage Tribunal. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Lawrence Newman Center Parish April 26, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery.
