Father Abbott dies at age 81

Father Eugene Abbott, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, died June 11 at the Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence in St. Paul.

Father Abbott was born Jan. 20, 1932 and ordained a priest Feb. 17, 1957. He retired from active ministry on Jan. 20, 1997.

He served at Nativity of Mary in Bloomington, St. John, St. Luke and Nativity of Our Lord in St. Paul, Sacred Heart in Belle Plaine, St. Joseph in Delano, St. Peter in Forest Lake and St. James, St. Mark and Assumption in St. Paul. In retirement, he cared for his mother and aunt until their passing.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 19 at Assumption, St Paul. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
