Updated: False alarm: St. Catherine public safety officer shot himself

A St. Catherine University public safety officer suffered a gunshot wound in the shoulder Sept. 12 in St. Paul.

He was shot in a wooded part of campus by Cleveland Avenue around 9:25 p.m. The shooter has not been apprehended, and St. Paul Police will continue to investigate.

The St. Catherine officer was treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul according to a university statement. It also said he “is expected to make a full recovery.”

Police had the campus locked down during a campus-wide search for four hours. Classes and activities resumed Sept. 13.

St. Catherine’s public safety and president’s offices maintained communication with the students, faculty and staff through email and text messages regarding the developments. Counselors have been made available for the students.
