The 8th Street Boulevard Gardens at St. Olaf in Minneapolis won an award for best adopted garden in the Minneapolis Downtown Improvement District 2024 Greening and Public Realm Awards.

Winners of the 10 awards were celebrated on Nov. 7 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis.

The Boulevard Gardens were installed by the city of Minneapolis as part of the city’s 8th Street reconstruction project. In 2019, St. Olaf adopted the gardens, which needed maintenance. Veronica Reske, St. Olaf’s administrative assistant and hospitality coordinator, said the parish “happily stepped up to the challenge.”

“After the first year, we started planting additional plants and greenery to fill out the gardens,” Reske said. “We’ve added new plants to the gardens every year since.”
