Trinity Woods in Trego, Wisconsin, is home to Extreme Faith Camp and Family Camp. As camp season wraps up, Executive Director of Trinity Woods Tim Healy said this year’s season was a success.
Healy told “Practicing Catholic” radio show host Patrick Conley during an interview airing at 9 p.m. Sept. 27 on Relevant Radio 1330 AM, “More than anything, kids experienced our Lord in the Eucharist week in and week out. Many, many lives were changed, and it really could not have gone much better.”
“It (Extreme Faith Camp) has been a big part of our family,” Healy said. “A number of our kids have gone through as junior high campers and then as the prayer team, and then finally as small group leaders for their junior and senior year(s) in high school. We’ve seen it work and we love the fact that this is not just a camp where you go and come back, but it’s all year.”
Healy explained that twice a month, outside of camp, the core team leaders meet for extra formation.
“The discipleship model is worked right into the whole process,” Healy said. “And again, we’ve seen the fruit and it’s beautiful.”
Extreme Faith Camp was started in 2001 by John O’Sullivan, now the camp’s parish liaison. As a liaison, O’Sullivan is responsible for assisting parishes prepare for the camps. O’Sullivan explained that the extreme part of Extreme Faith Camp is Jesus Christ.
“The focus and the whole mission of camp is to allow for an encounter with our Lord, primarily within the Blessed Sacrament through daily Mass,” O’Sullivan said. “We have perpetual adoration throughout the week for most weeks, depending on their (camper) numbers. What’s amazing to me is the encounter they have with the Lord. It’s not a one and done or the end of their relationship … the goal when we started doing Extreme Faith Camp is that we will go home with these young people. We continue to invite them into ministry, and we invite those who’ve been to camp to come back as leaders to be core team members. … But even more importantly, to just share their faith.”
