The technical producer of the “Practicing Catholic” radio show, Paul Sadek, demonstrates his skill on the autoharp for the program airing at 9 p.m. Dec. 27 on Relevant Radio 1330 AM.
Turn on the show to hear “Silent Night,” “Oh Holy Night” and “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful.”
Between songs, Sadek talks with the show’s host, Patrick Conley, about how he came to play the instrument, which is not a harp at all. It is in the zither family of instruments, Sadek explained.
A beautiful aspect of the instrument as a “strummy thing” is that anyone with a basic knowledge of music can pick one up and get enjoyment out of it, Sadek said.
Sadek said he attends autoharp gatherings in California and Washington state that are a delightful opportunity to play with others working with the same instrument.
