Kate Soucheray, a columnist for The Catholic Spirit, said parents need to step up in their kids’ lives.

In the “Practicing Catholic” program set to debut at 9 p.m. Aug. 22 on Relevant Radio 1330 AM, Soucheray said, “Step up and be parents. You are the leaders of the home. Don’t leave this to the culture because the culture is waiting for parents to be busy, to be distracted, to be occupied, and the culture will do all of this raising of our kids for the parents.”

Even though Soucheray’s children have grown up and are out of the house, they all meet on Sundays as a family. Soucheray and her husband kept their big house and didn’t downsize so that it could be filled with their kids and grandkids. To help reclaim Sunday for the Lord, Soucheray recommends making it a sacred day.

“Have it be a time that is special and have it be a time that sets the tone for the rest of the week,” Soucheray said.

She explained that the Holy Spirit is the love between the Father and the Son.

“It’s so beautiful,” Soucheray said. “I don’t think we grasp that, but that is what’s happening in families on Sunday. It’s that love, the laughter, the fun, the game that you’ll play, the shrieks of joy as the kids are jumping off the diving board with whatever dive my husband says to do.”

The future will pass by and pass through the families we create, Soucheray said.

“Every one of us has the responsibility to make that happen,” she said.
