Understanding the communion of saints

The communion of saints is a timely topic as November approaches, the month we celebrate All Saints (Nov. 1) and All Souls (Nov. 2) and pray for the dead. This core belief is stated in the Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”

Two priests retire, others receive faculties, new assignments

Father Gregory Welch retired from full-time ministry June 30. He had served as pastor of St. Patrick in Edina since 2004. He was ordained in 1967 and served on staff at the Catholic Youth Center in St. Paul.

Lakeville parish seeks healing after Mass incident

All Saints Church in Lakeville invited parishioners to bring a red flower with them to any one of the parish’s five Palm Sunday Masses April 16-17 as a healing response to an incident last week at Mass in which a man poured a jar of what was believed to be urine on the altar.
