The Center for Mission promotes the missionary life of the Church and coordinate support for the mission outreach of the archdiocese by building bridges of faith, culture and resources to Catholic communities around the world.
Mission is the mutual exchange and sharing of gifts in faith for the sake of the Gospel. In sharing with our brothers and sisters in Venezuela, we have received gifts back home that have enriched our local Church.
The Center for Mission recently selected four winners from separate grade categories for its annual writing contest. Participants had to answer the question: “How do you put your faith in action, words and deeds?”
As we approach World Mission Sunday on Oct. 20, this issue includes stories of our brothers and sisters in overseas missions, and the Center for Mission will appear many times. You might ask, “Why? What does the Center for Mission have to do with World Mission Sunday? Who are they anyway?”
“Some give to God’s mission by going to foreign lands and bringing the Gospel. And, there are some who go to the missions by giving what they have to make it possible for others to go.”
Students throughout the archdiocese were asked to respond to this question in the annual Center for Mission Writing Contest. After receiving hundreds of submissions from schools and parishes throughout the archdiocese, four students in each of four grade categories have been selected and have received their awards.
