Jesus

Why I am Catholic — Dennis Brummel

Raised Catholic, my parents brought us to Mass every Sunday. I still remember driving to the nearest town for Mass even if we were out camping far away from home. What an amazing seed they planted within me.

Time alone together

Time alone with our Lord is essential to intimacy with him. In addition to daily connection, periodic spiritual retreats can deepen one’s relationship with him tremendously. Most parishes offer Advent and Lenten mini retreats that can be perfect opportunities to step away from our busy lives and draw inward.

Why I am Catholic – Meghan Johnson

I had acknowledged the Lord here and there since I was little, but I was confused about who God was. I did not understand what he desired for me or that I could have a personal relationship with him. I saw him more as someone distant who I’d pray to if I was scared or to remedy something bad that was happening.

Master of all the saints

"Who do you say that I am?" It's the question Jesus posed to the men closest to him, the one Peter answered with an unequivocal confession of faith in him as the messiah and son of God. The entirety of our Catholic faith rests on Peter's response and, for 2,000 years, the Church has proclaimed the divinity of Jesus Christ and his eternal kingdom.

Who do you say that I am?

Who do you say that I am? How many correct answers are there to that question?

Through Jesus, to the saints

The Mass is all about Jesus, the bridge between humanity and God. But on a recent Sunday morning at my new parish, I found my eyes drawn to someone else: St. Joseph.

The priest configures himself to Jesus, the high priest

Jesus is the great high priest (Heb 4:14) as declared by God (Heb 5:10), “holy innocent, undefiled” (Heb 7:26). Jesus is great, superior to every other priest, whether Moses or Aaron or any other priest, because he is both divine and human, God and man. All other priests are only human, “beset by weakness” (Heb 5:2).

Encounter the love of Christ in holy matrimony

My own vocation of marriage is positively reinforced every time I witness the goodness, beauty and truth of the sacrament of holy matrimony. This year I have been blessed to attend, witness and assist as deacon at a good number of weddings — three included close relatives, which made the ceremonies extra special.

Life near water — physically and spiritually

Here in Minnesota, we appreciate the significance of water.

Why I am Catholic — Izzy Dehmer

Like many Catholics, I grew up in a practicing Catholic family. My family and I would go to Mass every Sunday, pray together at home and talk about our faith regularly. I’ve always loved learning about our faith, learning about Jesus, but I never really focused on getting to know Jesus for who he is.

Eucharist: Nourishment for the journey

We are hearing much in these days about people’s experience of the 10th National Eucharistic Congress that took place in Indianapolis. While thousands attended, there were many who were not in Indianapolis, but experienced the National Eucharistic Revival closer to home. Opportunities included the Source and Summit Eucharistic procession on Memorial Day in St. Paul and many other events hosted by parishes in our archdiocese that were along the Marian Route of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage.
