The clerical abuse crisis and the “crisis of credibility” it created for the U.S. bishops have led to serious divisions within the U.S. Church and to a temptation to look for administrative solutions to problems that go much deeper, Pope Francis told the U.S. bishops.
While the pope has the fullness of authority and power in the Catholic Church, he can exercise that authority only in obedience to Christ, and if he does not, it is up to the Catholic faithful to object, said U.S. Cardinal Raymond Burke.
The exhibit includes uniforms and other objects “in order to show more about the tradition and commitment, their faith, their vocation — because for them it’s a real vocation in life,” its curator said.
As the cardinals in Rome prepare to elect a new pope, students at Presentation School in Maplewood are watching closely. They each were assigned a cardinal to study and pray for.
