In his second visit to the Trinity Woods Catholic Retreat Center in Trego, Wisconsin, Bishop Michael Izen was impressed with the campgrounds. He described it as having beautiful landscapes, good accommodations and a good amount of land.
Bishop Izen told “Practicing Catholic” radio show producer Rachael McCallum during an interview airing at 9 p.m. Sept. 13 on Relevant Radio 1330 AM that his favorite part of the camp was family-style Holy Adoration.
“A good chunk of time of just traditional adoration with the Lord and the monstrance,” Bishop Izen said. “I actually went to the monstrance and then brought it forward to the front of the sanctuary and stood there as the families would come forward, one family at a time and kneel down. They put some blankets out and they would kneel down in front of the monstrance and just have family time with the Lord.”
Bishop Izen previously attended Trinity Woods for Extreme Faith Camp, which is a camp for middle schoolers, operated and run by high schoolers and adult youth ministers. At the family camp Bishop Izen just recently attended, he said there were over 200 individuals.
“One of the families was talking like ‘would it be great if they could go spread the word back in Stillwater and just have a have a camp of just Stillwater families?’” Bishop Izen said. “I could see on the one hand why they would want that, that would be powerful. It would strengthen the parish bond, but what I witnessed is I think it’s great for these families to come out and realize that there are other great parishes in the archdiocese with great families who have reverence for these devotions. … It’s a big world out there and I think there’s a lot of great Catholics out there.”
