Drawn into the space of mercy

Frodo Baggins never met Gollum before he set out on his journey in “The Lord of the Rings,” but he still had a rather poor opinion of Gollum.

3 conversion experiences reveal the majesty of God

The longer I live, the more I find that life is filled with times of transformation that call us to conversion.

The Church as Christ’s body

The Church is not a democracy. Our beliefs and our leaders, for instance, are not determined by popular vote. Yet there are many Catholics who seem to be as apathetic about their Church as millions of Americans are about politics. To such Catholics, the word “church” means either a building or the clergy.

Wedding preparation

I typically experience a tinge of sadness leaving the Christmas season because it is so lovely. There are many joyous celebrations: Christmas, Holy Family, Epiphany, and the Baptism of the Lord. The priests of the Roman Missal who are saints

All hail the king!

Within our American culture we rightfully bristle at the idea of a sovereign authority who would be completely in charge of our lives.

What is the sin that ‘cannot be forgiven’?

Q) I heard that Jesus said there is a sin that cannot be forgiven. What is this sin? Why can’t God forgive it?

God can do much with generous offerings, no matter their size

How much did the widow really give with her two small coins? In today’s money, she gave about $2. However, that’s not important. Of true importance was that she gave everything. Contrast this with those that gave much. Some of them were likely motivated to do right by God, but theirs was often a calculated giving, seeing it as a way to build influence and to maintain or improve their social standing.
