The Chrism Mass will take place 10 a.m. Holy Thursday, April 18 at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The annual Mass has been rescheduled from Thursday, April 11 due to a late-season snowstorm.

Snow began falling heavily in the Twin Cities Wednesday afternoon and continued through Thursday into Friday.

The annual Mass, which precedes the Triduum, includes the blessing of holy oils used in sacraments throughout the year.

Priests also renew their priestly promises, which include conformity with Christ, “to be faithful ministers of the mysteries of God,” and to celebrate the Eucharist with sincere devotion.

The change in schedule more closely mirrors that of the Vatican, where Pope Francis will celebrate the Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday morning.
