Father Schaffer put in charge of diocese in Venezuela

Father Greg Schaffer’s plate just got fuller. The priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis who serves as the pastor of Jesucristo Resucitado in San Felix, Venezuela, was named administrator of the Diocese of Ciudad Guayana Jan. 17.

“Everybody’s just going hungry,” said Father Greg Schaffer, pastor of Jesucristo Resucitado in San Felix, Venezuela, who last month was named vicar general of the Diocese of Ciudad Guayana. “You go to the grocery store and the shelves are bare.”

By sharing priests with the people of Venezuela, the archdiocese has been gifted as well

Mission is the mutual exchange and sharing of gifts in faith for the sake of the Gospel. In sharing with our brothers and sisters in Venezuela, we have received gifts back home that have enriched our local Church.

PEACE PRAYERS ASH WEDNESDAY

Redefining beauty

"Paint the Mirrors," an initiative started by University of St. Thomas student Angela Deeney, encourages others to leave their mirrors behind for the 40 days of Lent. “I want girls to know that the light they radiate doesn’t come from that shiny piece of metal," she says, "but from the love they give to others in confidence reflecting back to them, illuminating who they really are."

Everybody should spend 10 days with a group of priests

I spent 10 days this fall traveling, touring, riding in the back of pick-up trucks, dining, praying, shooting the breeze and solving the problems of the world with a handful of our priests. If every Catholic got the chance to do the same they would all have a renewed love for their faith and a renewed faith in the priesthood.
